以切断细钢丝法、冷轧带钢剪切、钢锭铣削或钢水快速冷凝法制成长径比（纤维长度与其直径的比值，当纤维截面为非圆形时，采用换算等效截面圆面积的直径）为30～100的纤维。因制取方法的不同钢纤维的性能有很大不同，如冷拔钢丝拉伸强度为380-3000MPa、冷轧带钢剪切法拉伸强度为600-900MPa、钢锭铣削法为700MPa；钢水冷凝法虽为380MPa，但是适合生产耐热纤维。

按外形划分（图1）有：平直形钢纤维（a）、压棱形钢纤维（b)、波形钢纤维（c）、弯钩形钢纤维（d\e）、大头形钢纤维（f）、双尖形钢纤维（g）、集束钢纤维（h）等等。
按生产工艺划分有：切断钢纤维（用细钢丝切断）；剪切钢纤维（用薄钢板、带钢剪切）；

钢纤维是一种新、高性能的钢纤维品种。钢纤维道路的配合比设计方法大体与普通混凝土相同，不同点为：强度双控标准（抗压强度和弯拉强度）；钢纤维掺量根据设计要求的弯拉强度确定；单位用水量和砂率与纤维掺量有关，每掺加0.5%（体积率）钢纤维，单位用水量增加6kg，砂率增大2%。
钢纤维混凝土具有与普通混凝土一样的搅拌、运转和施工性能，纤维在混凝土中不会结球，分布均匀，可在商品混凝土搅拌站进行生产并能用于泵送施工。铣削钢纤维混凝土的早期坍落度损失较大，30分钟损失32%，2小时损失42%。钢纤维混凝土的实际工作性优于相同的坍落度的普通混凝土。钢纤维混凝土具有良好的材料性能，与普通混凝土相比，其抗压强度提高2～20%；弯拉强度提高20～50%；劈裂抗拉强度提高20～40%；耐磨性能提高40%左右，其物理力理性能完全可以满足城市道路工程及检查井盖等配套构件需求技术指标。钢纤维粗糙而洁净的表面，能与混凝土中的水泥浆体牢固的结合，这是铣削钢纤维提高混凝土各种性能的根本原因。
